About Oman
The Sultanate of Oman is gilded as the jewel on the Arabian Sea and is regularly referred to as the Switzerland of the Orient.
Rightly so, in my opinion. For many years Oman has been considered as politically and economically stable. Stunning white beaches and rugged mountain ranges that extend through lush green valleys are still an insider tip for many Europeans.
My studio accommodation is in the city of Salalah in the Dhofar region. It currently hosts around 400,000 inhabitants. Under Sultan Said Ibn Taimur, the city was even the capital of Oman during his reign between 1932 and 1970.

About the Khareef
Salalah is the annual scene of an impressive and recurring natural attraction. During the monsoon season between July and September the barren desert landscape is transformed into a huge lush green oasis for a few months. This natural phenomenon can only be observed in the south of Oman and attracts big numbers of local tourists. During this so-called khareef (Arabic: autumn) the temperature drops to around 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. Very little rain can actually be measured, but the Khareef monsoon resembles a kind of spray frost with wafts of mist. The warm, humid air often hangs low over the landscape and is so unique that every year numerous Arabs fly to Salalah especially for this natural spectacle. In addition to the main season in winter, this creates a second main season in autumn.

About Salalah
The city of Salalah has a long tradition as a shipping trade route. The Italian world traveler Marco Polo and the Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta already mentioned the port of Al-Baleed. In ancient times and in the Middle Ages, incense was exported here across the Indian Ocean and far into the world. Archaeological cities and muses bear witness to this great past. Today some of these historical sites have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
But it is above all the white, paradisiacal sandy beaches that have made the region more and more popular with Europeans in recent years. The company Orascom Development bought a gigantic piece of land a few years ago and is now developing a superlative urban development project together with the Omani government. The focus is deliberately placed on authenticity and sustainability. The result is the destination Hawana Salalah. In the middle of this is Forest Island. And there it can be found. My accommodation that is ready to be rented out.

Forest Island
My accommodation is on Forest Island, a small island surrounded by an artificial lagoon that reminds me a little of the waterways of Venice. In the middle of this island there is a pool area, a restaurant, a fitness center, a tennis court as well as barbecue facilities and a small path through the exotic forest.
The accommodation is only a few minutes away from the white sandy beach. The whole destination is open to visitors and offers a first-class marina, dozens of restaurants and cafes, numerous activities and events as well as Oman's first water park.
According to the prospectus, Forest Island will one day become an empire of exquisite natural beauty and was designed in harmony with nature. A haven of calm in the heart of Hawana Salalah. The airport can be reached in around 40 minutes.

The accommodation
My accommodation is in Forest Island, very close to the beach. The entrance is on the second floor, number 201. Overall, the accommodation has a size of 50 square meters and a small balcony with a view of the lagoon and the Arabic Sea. Two different architectures were used alternately on Forest Island:
Moorish:
This architecture draws on elements and inspiration from the Mediterranean during ancient times.
This is characterized by towering arches, large entrances and openwork latticework.
Modern:
With this architecture, the exterior of the houses is planned firmly and confidently. The windows and doors are spacious but discreet.
The overall picture is minimalist but opulent. For me the perfect mix of modern styling with contemporary Arabic flourishes.
Ultimately, the two styles come together as a unit. The two buildings alternate on Forest Island.
